Scot Paisley in his studio

J. Scot Paisley

Scot's passion is human character studies painted in acrylic and gouache, among other mediums in an impressionistic style. He explores the human condition through body language, facial expression, gesture, brush stroke and colour.

Having a strong sense of empathy for people, Scot gravitated towards sketching people on buses, in parks and malls. This interest manifested into paintings of North American Natives, African and Asian character studies, Rodeo and Jazz personalities. Enthralled by Jazz and its imaginative improvisational freedom, Scot is also attracted to the emotion and presence of musicians. He hopes that the brush strokes on his images create the same effect as a Jazz musician's accents on his notes — making his art swing too.

Jared Scot Paisley was born in Calgary on January 11, 1976. He was raised on an acreage southwest of Calgary. Following high school, Scot enrolled in the Alberta College of Art and Design, graduating with both the four year diploma in Visual Communications and a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

Scot spent his childhood avidly drawing, reading and listening to music. He likes to believe that genetics plays a part in his artistic talents as two uncles and his father are professional Artists.
